A SEARCH
ENGINE IS:
A
must
for everyone who spends any time on computers and wants to educatethemselves
on anything.
You just can't
'hang 10' with out knowing how to surf!!!!
1. Go
to my page of Bookmarks at http://www.olivija.com/lungs/
Scroll down it header titled: Search Engines. There is a whole page
of them but use the fast one there with the window, already ready
to go.
2. Type
in any name in the world you want to know about. Put the name in
quotes. It does not matter if it is caps or lower case. The
only thing that is case sensitive is url addresses.
3. Try
"Butterflies"
- "Brad Pitt" - "Animals with four legs" - "Things that go
bump in the night" - "what ever flips your floppy"
SOMETIMES
YOU GET MORE THAN YOU WANT from these searches. Some very sick
people sneak in smutty things where you are trying to do an honest search.
So when searching the web do not be surprised. If it
turns you
off, just click it off. If I can explain anything more to you please
feel free to email and ask me. I really do want all of you to learn
to use and enjoy your computers more. Mine has brought me so
much enjoyment when I did not feel like getting out of this chair, I did
not have to pout and feel sorry for myself. I could travel and explore
the far reaches of Cyberspace and my spirits would be lifted as I soared
with a newfound freedom.
HAPPY SURFING!!!!!!

To Copy this
sentence, which is: "Thanks, for the tip about the coma."
1.
Click in front of the word "Thanks
2. Hold
down left mouse button and move mouse to the end of the sentence and then
let off on mouse button. This will highlight what you want to copy.
If you want to copy a whole page, hold down on your control key and type
a
3. Move
the cursor to the inside of the highlighted text (it will change to an
arrow) and while there, click the right mouse button. Select copy
- this puts your selection on the clipboard which will stay there until
you turn off your computer or copy something new. If you do not feel
real handy with the mouse, you can do this same step by going up to edit
and click and then select copy.
4. Move
your cursor to where you want to place the copied text and click your right
mouse button. Select paste and your text will appear as if by magic.
Want to paste it five times (Like if you wanted to put five smiley pictures
somewhere) just click five times. Remember that what you put in the
clipboard stays there until you replace it. So rather than trying
to remember or learn how to resend something, I usually just do a quick
full page
copy (control a) and paste the page to a new message blank.
(This works
well as I cut and pasted these instructions from Bill Powell as per his
instructions)

TO SEND A
HYPERTEXT URL ADDRESS OR EMAIL
1.
Just click left side of mouse at the beginning of the address and holding
finger down drag across to the end, then raise finger.
2. It
is now like carbon paper blue, Right? Put your arrow on top of it and arrow
turns to hand.
3. Left
click on it and menu opens up. Right click on character properties and
another menu comes up.
4. You
have three choices to click on character - link - paragraph. Left

5. There
will be a pulsating line at the window and you need to type or paste in
the exact same name as the url, you want hypertext. The one that
you have highlighted in carbon blue. If you have already done a file
copy of
it then
it is saved in your browser and you can hold down your control key and
hit the v and it will copy into
that space
after the pulsating line.
|
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN DOING A URL ADDRESS AND A EMAIL ADDRESS IS:
1.
When you come to the part where you put the address in the window you first
type in
mailto:
then the address.
EXAMPLE:
mailto:lessons@olivija.com
no spaces anywhere then when
the person
gets the hypertext email they can click on it
a self-addressed
email will appear ready to type them a note on.
EMAIL ADDRESSES
ARE NOT CASE SENSITIVE. URL ADDRESSES ARE CASE SENSITIVE.
If the url
address is a capitol you have to use a capitol. You have to have
everything exactly the same.

"ANCESTRY MAGAZINE QUICK TIP"
To clean up all of those >>>s that show
up when a message has been forwarded several times, what I normally
do is copy the message, including all the greater
than symbols (>>>), and paste it into my word processor.
Then I go into the Find/Replace function (found
in the "Edit" menu). I tell it to find > and replace it with
NOTHING (not the word, just leave the "Replace
With" field blank). Then tell it to go to work.
After that, I manually reformat the document the
way I like it, copy the whole thing, paste it into an e-mail,
and send the critter. I like to use programs
with which I am familiar, so it becomes almost automatic for me.
